Honestly, I’m not really “in” to Valentine’s Day…Meaning, I don’t insist on an elaborate display of affection that includes chocolates and over priced roses snagged from a tent in the Kroger parking lot. BUT I AM obsessed with finding adorable Valentine’s Day cards for my kids to share at school. I try to avoid the big-box store’s generic selection of super heroes, Barbies, princesses, etc. that are outrageously priced. However, I’m also not so obsessed with finding THE perfect card that I’m willing to craft Pinterest-inspired cards that cover my house in glue and glitter.
So my pilgrimage for the original AND affordable Valentine’s Day card took me to The Dollar Tree (my go-to spot for all things school-party related). I found so many adorable Valentine’s Day card options for both girls and boys!
For boys I found dinosaur themed cards that actually have small rubber dinosaurs attached to them!! I had seen similar ones on Etsy, but the price tag was too much AND they didn’t even come with the dinosaurs. I was able to purchase six for $1 at The Dollar Tree! *Disclaimer: the cards are rather small…but they get thrown away, right?!
For girls I found darling cards with witty sayings and accompanying pins; only $1 for eight. Decorating your backpack with pins seems all the rage in my daughter’s class, so I knew these would be a MAJOR hit. I also came across cute unicorn figurines that had lip gloss in the bottom. There were a variety of scents to choose from and they
would be precious with a card and ribbon attached.
I also ran across options that work for both boys and girls. — A Valentine’s Day Card that you hit with your fist and the card inflates into a small mylar balloon…!! — How cute is that?! — And better yet, they are four for $1!!! They also had Valentine pencils and pencil top erasers of hearts or robots, which is perfect attached by a card adorned with ribbon or striped string.
I contacted my friend Meghan, the owner of PaperEtiquette, for some help with a Valentine gift for my daughter. I explained to Meghan that I needed a card to that would be the correct size to display choker necklaces I had already purchased. My plan is to stretch the necklaces across the card. I’m hoping it will be a big hit, since my daughter is obsessed these necklaces! Meghan quickly created this personalized artwork that resembles my daughter, and I couldn’t be happier with it! I only wish I had thought ahead and had her make these for all of her friends!
I can’t recommend PaperEtiquette enough. I go to PaperEtiquette for everything from party invitations to daily prayer cards for my kiddos. Her turnaround time is outstanding and I love the fact that I can simply download the PDF and print the items myself!! Check out her Etsy store! Below are some of her card options that are ready to purchase AND currently 10% off:
I’m hoping this helped all of you moms find adorable and affordable options for your kiddos this Valentine’s Day. Happy EARLY Heart Day!!
